Eritrean refugees in Canada push for a day in court with Nevsun Resources, accused of using forced labour at its mine in Eritrea


    British-Columbia based mining company Nevsun Resources has been accused of using forced labour at its Bisha mine in Eritrea. Three Eritrean refugees in Canada have been struggling to bring the company before a Canadian court to answer the charge. But each step of the way Nevsun has pushed back, arguing Canada has no jurisdiction and the case should be heard in an Eritrean court. Gwen talked to Dawit Demoz, an Eritrean activist living in Toronto, about the court case, Eritrea’s vast system of conscript labour, and the prospects for change.
